What are exosomes?
Exosomes are nano-sized vesicles, or bubbles, released by cells. They act as messengers, carrying a cargo of proteins, lipids, and genetic material (RNA and DNA) between cells. This intercellular communication plays a vital role in various biological processes, including tissue repair, regeneration, and immune response.

In the context of hair loss, exosomes derived from specific cell types, such as mesenchymal stem cells, are of particular interest. Dr Horlick uses Purasomes, exosomes derived from bovine colostrum (cow's first milk). These exosomes contain growth factors and signalling molecules that can stimulate hair follicle activity and promote hair growth.

How Exosomes Work for Hair Loss

Exosome therapy for hair loss involves delivering these vesicles directly to the scalp, typically through injections or microneedling. Once delivered, exosomes work in several ways to revitalize hair follicles:

-
Stimulating hair follicle growth: Exosomes contain growth factors like VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), which promotes blood vessel formation, improving nutrient supply to hair follicles. Other growth factors, such as KGF (keratinocyte growth factor) and FGF (fibroblast growth factor), directly stimulate hair follicle cells to grow and proliferate.
-
Promoting hair follicle regeneration: Exosomes can help repair damaged hair follicles and promote the formation of new ones. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with thinning hair or early stages of baldness.
-
Reducing inflammation: Chronic inflammation can contribute to hair loss. Exosomes have anti-inflammatory properties that can help create a healthier environment for hair growth.
-
Improving scalp health: By promoting cell regeneration and reducing inflammation, exosomes can improve overall scalp health, creating an optimal environment for hair growth.

Exosome treatment
Exosomes come in a solution, which is administered to the treatment area in combination with microneedling.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a form of collagen induction therapy. A medical-grade, electronic device is used to create tiny micropunctures in your skin using very fine needles. The injuries that microneedling creates are not harmful, rather, they are beneficial because they stimulate a safe, low-grade inflammatory response, that results in the skin producing collagen and elastin. This process leaves you with brighter, smoother, and tighter skin.

Benefits of Microneedling

Microneeding is effective at treating a variety of the most common skin complaints and can be used to improve:

-
Acne scarring
-
Skin elasticity
-
Uneven skin tone
-
Wrinkles and fine lines
-
Hyperpigmentation
-
Enlarged pores
-
Hair re-growth

Microneedling, which also stimulates hair growth, works synergistically with exosomes to improve hair growth. Exosomes come as a solution, which is applied to the treatment area during microneedling, allowing the exosomes to penetrate the treatment area to take effect.

Which areas can be treated with Exosomes?
Exosomes in combination with microneedling are used primarily on the:

-
Scalp
-
Face
-
Neck
The process
Before treatment
At your consultation, your hair or face will be assessed and Dr Horlick will recommend a treatment plan based on this. A consent form will be completed and before photos taken. Numbing cream will be applied and given 5-10 minutes to take effect. You will now be ready for your treatment.
During treatment
The XCellaris Pro Twist professional microneedling device will be used to create micropunctures in your skin, either on your face or scalp, and your skin will then be bathed in the exosome solution. The exosomes will penetrate the micropunctures and will take their effect in the hair follicle/dermal skin layer. Discomfort should be minimal due to the pre-treatment numbing. If you are having exosomes with microneedling on your face, you will then have a hydrating mask applied and undergo 15 minutes of LED light therapy to soothe your skin and accelerate the healing process.
After treatment
You will be advised of the aftercare instructions and your next appointment will be booked if applicable.
Results
You can expect to see your results as early as 2 weeks after your initial treatment. Multiple treatments are required for optimal results.
Results
Result 2 weeks after 1 session of microneedling with Purasomes Exosomes for hair. 6 sessions are recommended for optimal results.
